Hi! I'm Greg, i'm an american currently living in russia. i've decided to keep this journal in order to keep in touch with folks back home, because russian mail still gets delivered by "speeding troikas", and horses just don't go over oceans well. I'm interested in different cultures in general, but in this journal i'll mainly share the peculiarities of living in this strange country, in the twillight of winter 10 months out of 12... My ideas and opinions are original. And I think I know why. Most expats in Russia write only about exotic details, strange situations, and unbelievable paradoxes. Unlike them, I get to know the culture by looking on the inside of things. I am not in a rush to quote shocking facts and amazing figures. My articles are the result of deep meditation.
Friends often ask me to add some made-up details so that the stories would look more spicy, atractive and funny. I'm opposed to that. I strongly believe that all things are interesting, given sincerety on the part of the teller and thirst for insight on the part of the listener. That's what I'm trying to do in my essays.
